For long the shadowy enigma of South and Central America the Jaguar was hardly ever seen and when it was it was often glimpsed crossing a trail in the deepest darkest parts of Belize. But that all changed around 10 years ago with the discovery of a large population of Jaguars living in the northern Pantanal region of Brazil. Living in one of the world’s richest ecosystems with much natural prey coupled with the huge numbers of cattle ranched there, the Jaguar numbers boomed and people started to see them.

Since then many people have been to the Pantanal and seen jaguars, in fact Royle Safaris was one of the first tour companies to run specific Jaguar Watching Safaris in the world. We have an incredible success rate in seeing wild jaguars here, not only do we have a 100% past success rate, but in the northern pantanal we have averaged over 2 different jaguar sightings per day!

What makes this part of the world so special is that all of the best Jaguar Watching is done via boat and as the jaguars here patrol the riverbanks in search of their favourite food (caimans and capybara) or they lay down on the beaches and exposed gaps in the forest taking in the breeze, they are easy to see.

We do not just see jaguars laying down and sleeping here, this is often much more than the views of lions you may get in Africa, here you have higher chances of seeing hunting, mating, fighting and sometimes even mothers and cubs as they come to the river banks to drink, mate, play and mark territories. The wealth of other life in the Brazilian Pantanal will have you spellbound and any wildlife enthusiast will leave here wanting to come back immediately.
