Holiday Breakdown

Day 1

On arrival in Botswana at Maun International Airport you will meet your English speaking naturalist guide and you will be transferred to our accommodation, level 3* / Chalets (Maun Lodge). We will have our evening meal here. There is the option for a scenic flight to the Okovango Delta if you wish you can book and pay on arrival at the lodge.

Day 2

Moremi Game Reserve

After an early breakfast we will leave Maun and head to one of the most famous reserves in all of Africa; Moremi. We will travel through traditional villages and have the opportunity to spot some game on the way. Animals such as impala, zebra and giraffes are often spotted during this drive. We then drive through the reserve to get to our exclusive wilderness camp in Xakanaxa. We will have our dinner at our camp, level – luxury safari tents and enjoy our first night in the bush.

Day 3

Moremi Game Reserve

Today we will rise early and after some tea and coffee head for a morning game drive around Moremi. Moremi is most famous for its population of African wild dogs which we hope to find today along with elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffe, cheetah, spotted hyena, jackals, impala, red lechwe and some of the 500 species of birds. We will have brunch back at the tents once the sun begins to get high in the sky and after a break head back out for an afternoon game drive. Once again dinner will be served at our camp, level – luxury safari tents. We will also enjoy a boat cruise today down one of the many rivers which dominate the reserve.

Day 4

Moremi Game Reserve

Today will follow much the same as yesterday except for the boat cruise. We will have a morning and afternoon game drive into the reserve and our meals will be served at our camp, level – luxury safari tents.

Day 5

Moremi Game Reserve

After breakfast we will leave our camp at Xakanaxa and continue our journey through the riverine ecosystem to our next exclusive wilderness area where our camp will be set up. This camp is situated close to Khawi River and we usually find a host of animals visiting the river to drink including giraffes, zebra, lions and the occasional hippo. We will eat our lunch en-route and have our evening meal at our camp, level – luxury safari tents.

Day 6

Moremi Game Reserve

After early morning tea and coffee we will leave for a morning game drive. The Khawi River area has a wealth of life and wild dogs are common around here aslong with impala, giraffe, elephants and many more animals. After lunch and a break back at the camp, level – luxury safari tents, we will have an afternoon game drive and spend the evening watching the sunset over Domno Hippo Pool which as the name suggests is usually full of hippos. Our evening meal will be at our camp.

Day 7

After a morning game drive and breakfast we will make the short journey from Moremi Game Reserve to Chobe National Park and in particular and very special place inside the park; Savuti. Savuti has one of the highest predator densities anywhere in the world and we should have no problem in finding all of Africas major carnivores here. We will have lunch en-route before heading past the grassy Mababe Depression to our camp, level – luxury safari tents. We should see huge herds of zebra and wildebeest whilst travelling to the campsite. Our evening meal will be at the camp.

Day 8

We will have tea and coffee early and head out to try and catch some of the predators at a fresh kill from the night before or even whilst they hunt down breakfast. We have a good record in finding wild dog, lions, leopards, cheetah and spotted hyena here. We will return to the camp for lunch and a rest before an afternoon safari and our evening meal once again served at our camp, level – luxury safari tents.

Day 9

Chobe National Park

After breakfast we will leave Savuti and head towards the Chobe River. This river sees the highest concentrations of elephants anywhere in the world during the dry season and there are also plenty of breeding elephants and huge herd of buffalo around. We will game drive around here before our evening meal at our camp, level – luxury safari tents.

Day 10

Chobe National Park

Today we will spend the day on the Chobe River and its many waterways as we explore the park the traditional way by using Mokoro canoes. This brings us very close to animals such as elephants, hundred of species of birds, pythons, crocodiles and plenty of other animals. We will have our last meal in the bush at our camp, level – luxury safari tents.

Day 11

Today after breakfast you will be transferred to Kasane airport in time to catch your return flight home.

Extra Information

Weather Conditions

The weather during May and June in Botswana is by far the best for wildlife viewing. It is the height of the dry season which means next to no rain and blue skies with temperatures around 12-25 degrees C.

What’s Included

Everything mentioned in the itinerary is included. Including three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). There will be an amount of bottled water (approx 1ltr) available for each guest each day. We have our own private vehicle to be driven by a local guide. You get the services of the zoologist escort included in the fee as well as local English speaking guide.

All our excursions including treks, guided walks, Mokoro canoe trip and park entrance fees are also included.

Personal Equipment

We recommend you bring along your own binoculars or scope as well as appropriate clothing; which should be light and airy. The nights can be chilly so a fleece, long trousers and woolly hat are a good idea. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Insect repellent is needed. Any medication, books or other items of a personal nature is of course up to you to bring along. Oh and please bring plenty of memory cards or film for your camera. Also do not forget sun cream, sun hat and sun glasses as the sun can be very strong here during the day.

Included Equipment

We provide a comprehensive species list of all the vertebrates present in the areas we are visiting as well as some of the best field guides and reference books for the areas we are visiting. There is usually a spare pair of binoculars but in a group of 4-6 people these do not stretch too far. Camera Traps will also be used to try and capture hard to see wildlife in the dead of night.

Extra Expenses

Nearly everything is included in this tour. The only things not included are international flights, travel insurance (contact us for more information one what is required from your insurance policy), any food bought outside of the three main meals, drinks outside of any offered with the meals and the bottled water provided each day and any items of a personal nature such as souvenirs and tips. Any applicable departure taxes and not included (but maybe included in the cost of your flights). Please check before departure.

Flight Information

As we are based in Manchester we recommend flights from Manchester International Airport

We recommend Etihad and Emirates as good airlines for flights to Johannesberg (South Africa). We then recommend South African Airways for the one way flight to Maun (Bostwana) and then again for the one way return from Kasane (Botswana) to Johannesberg. It may seem confusing but we will provide links to the correct flights if needed and as we travel across Botswana it is essential that we fly in and out of different airports. One of the best websites to search for the best fares for all these flights is; who are ATOL bonded and IATA accredited this is a link direct to their site. Please check our terms and conditions regarding booking flights.

Please contact us for more information about flights and we can provide you with a link direct to the flights from another supplier; in which case you only have to enter the passenger information and payment details. By using the above link you will leave our site and we at Royle Safaris hold no responsibility for the content on the site.

Visas and Health Information

All UK passport holders are not required to have a visa for Botswana. However things change so the easiest way to find information is by visiting (be aware that this link leaves our site and we at Royle Safaris hold no responsibility for information on the site).

There are no mandatory vaccinations needed to visit Botswana, but it is recommended to be protected against TB, polio, typhoid, tetanus and hepatitis It is however very important to be taking a form of malaria prophylactics during your time in Botswana. Please consult your GP about your individual requirements for visiting Botswana as soon as you have decided on this trip.
