After arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by your zoologist escort and our local shark diving expert. You will then be transferred to Gansbaai along the False Bay coastline (2 hours). Once we get to Gansbaai we will check into our accommodation, level – 4* (The Roundhouse Guest house). We will enjoy our meals here and this afternoon you are welcome to sightsee. This is one of the best places in the world for land-based whale watching in the world and the southern right whales are a joy to watch.
This morning we will rise early and head out to the world famous shark alley for our first meeting with the great white sharks. We will spend 3-4 hours on the water with the sharks. There are nearly always seen here and once we have one around the boat you will have the chance to get inside the cage and see the awesome power and sublime perfection of the sharks on their terms. In addition to the cage diving there is the chance to see the sharks make predations on the many seals which live here too. This is one of the few places where natural predations are regularly seen. We will have lunch on our return to the accommodation, level – 4* (The Roundhouse Guest house) and the rest of the day will be at your leisure. There is plenty to do here so you will not be bored that is for sure. Our evening meal will once again be at our accommodation.
Today we will wake and follow the same pattern as yesterday with a 3-4 hour trip to shark alley where you will once again have the chance to enter the great white sharks element. After lunch we will drive back to Cape Town (2 hours) taking in the beautiful coastline of the Aghulas and False Bay before arriving in Simonsntown. We will check into our accommodation, level – 3* (The Grosvenor Guest house) where we will have our evening meal. Your zoologist escort will offer you the chance to visit Boulders Beach which is one of the largest and defiantly the easiest to access African penguin colony in the world. Our evening meal will be at our accommodation or a nearby restaurant.
Today after our breakfast we will take the opportunity to dive with some of the most rarely seen sharks in the world. The usually very deep dwelling blunt-nosed seven-gill sharks (known here as cow sharks) are often found in water less than 12 meters deep in the kelp beds of False Bay. Along with the very impressive 1-3m long cow sharks we usually seen spotted-gully sharks, brown shysharks, puff-adder shysharks and other catsharks. There is also a chance of spending time in the water with the playful inhabitants of False Bay the Cape fur seals. We will eat lunch and the rest of the day will be at your leisure. Our evening meal will be at our accommodation, level – 3* (The Grosvenor Guest house).
After our breakfast we will be transferred to the airport to catch a flight across South Africa to Durban on the wild coast. On arrival in Durban we will meet our next local shark diving expert and get transferred to Unkomaas. We will check into our accommodation, level – 4* (Scuba Lodge Umkomaas). The next three days will include two dives per day and the order may vary. All our meals will be eaten at our accommodation as well as snacks being served on the boat.
Today could be spent either having two tiger shark dives or dives to Aliwal Shoal which is a world famous shark diving site. Aliwal Shoal has many species of shark which inhabit the waters. We will be looking out for scalloped hammerhead sharks, black tip sharks, sand-tiger sharks (ragged tooth sharks) and white-tip reef sharks which are nearly always seen as well as the possibility of grey reef sharks, bronze whalers, bull sharks, tiger sharks and many other species of marine animals found here. We will have three dives at the Aliwal Shoal in total over the the next three days in Umkomaas. Our evening meal will be at our accommodation, level – 3* (Scuba Lodge Umkomaas).
This morning we may enjoy two tiger shark dives. The tiger shark dives are done around Protea Banks where we bait and chum the water around 6m down and wait for the sharks to arrive. We usually get tiger sharks at this time of the year but bull sharks are also occasionally seen. We will drift around the bait bucket with the current as the sharks swim around and in between us and the bait. We will have three baited tiger shark dives over the two days here. Our evening meal will be at our accommodation, level – 4* (Scuba Lodge Umkomaas).
Today we will have two more dives. Which ever two dives we have not done yet over the last two days. We will eat our evening meal at our accommodation, level – 4* (Scuba Lodge Umkomaas).
Today we will have an early breakfast before catching a flight to Johannesburg from here we will connect to a second flight and travel to Mozambique and in particular Inhambane Airport. Once we land we will be met by our third local shark diving expert and by transferred to Tofo. We will check into the accommodation, level – 4* / chalets (Aquatico Lodge). We will have our evening meal here and prepare for the next three days where we will be sharing the water with a wealth of life including the largest fish in the world.
This morning will start with breakfast before we head for our first dive. We will have two dives today with lunch, rest and a whale shark safari in between. There are so many reefs to dive here that it would be silly to list them all but we have excellent chances of finding manta rays, green turtles, whale sharks, hundreds of reef fish, soft and hard corals and so much more life you will be stunned. The whale shark safari will last for 2-3 hours and we will scour the area for these gentle giants and once we find one you will be offered the chance to snorkel with them in their own element. This is truly unforgettable. Our well deserved evening meal will be back at our accommodation, level – 4* / chalets (Aquatico Lodge).
Today we will do exactly the same as yesterday but we will probably chose different dive sites for our dives. Once again we will search for the whale sharks if we are not lucky enough to see them whilst scuba diving. This is one of the few places in the world where you regularly see whale sharks whilst diving (as opposed to snorkelling) as they seem less wary of the bubbles and noise than other populations around the world. We will have a hearty meal at the accommodation, level – 4* / chalets (Aquatico Lodge) on our return.
Once again today we will have the same format as the previous two days. Two dives (at different sites once again), a 2-3 hour whale shark safari and snorkelling as well as lunch on board and dinner at the accommodation, level – 4* / chalets (Aquatico Lodge). This is our last night in Africa and your zoologist escort will treat us all to a drink or two as we reflect over the last 12 days and admire the wonderful sharks of Southern Africa,
Today after breakfast you will be transferred to Inhambane airport in time to catch your flight to Johannesburg in time to connect to your return flight home.
