Holiday Breakdown

Day 1

Kathmandu (Nepal)

On arrival in Kathmandu you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your accommodation, level 5* hotel (Hotel Yak and Yeti). The rest of the evening will be for you to relax.

Day 2

Kathmandu (Nepal)

Today you will have a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu; taking in the sights of Durbar Square, Syambunath, Bodnath Stupa and the many other wonderful cultural and historical sites of the city. During the day your guides will apply for your Tibet visa which should be ready by the afternoon. Once again your evening meal will be served at your accommodation, level 5* hotel (Hotel Yak and Yeti).

Day 3


This morning you will be taken to the airport to catch your flight over the impressive Himalayas and into Tibet. The flight can either be very spectacular, full of imposing peaks and views of the highest mountains in the world, or pretty clouded over (depending on the weather). Once you arrive in Lhasa you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your accommodation, level 3-4* Hotel / Guest house (Dhood Gu Hotel). The rest of the day will be at your leisure as you acclimatise to the extra altitude and get a feel for this amazing part of the world. It is advisable to drink lots of fluids and let your body get used to the altitude.

Day 4


After breakfast, you will be briefed on the day’s program. An experienced guide will take you on a tour to Sera Monastery, Norbulingka and the Barkhor Square. At the famous Sera Monastery, you will get an insight into the important aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. You pay a visit to Norbulingka, the summer retreat of the Dalai Lama. Completed in 1956, the handsome building is ornately decorated with Tibetan carvings and paintings. Jokhang temple provides yet another glimpse of the rich Tibetan cultural heritage. You will also get the chance to stroll around the busy Barkhor Square, the nerve centre of Lhasa. After the day’s tour, you will be escorted back to your accommodation, level 3-4* Hotel / Guesthouse (Dhood Gu Hotel).

Day 5

Namtso Lake

After an early breakfast, you will be escorted by your guide to the majestic Potala Palace. The imposing structure of the palace dominates the landscape of Lhasa. As you are guided through the ancient chambers of the palace, you get to see Tibetan art at its best. The Potala Palace has a vast array of intricate Tibetan murals and beautiful statues. You will also get to view the tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas. Later in the day you will visit the beautifully landscaped Drepung Monastery where you can observe nuns and monks chanting and performing religious discourses. After the day’s tour is over, you are escorted back to your hotel for a well- earned rest. Note: Since only a limited number of visitors are allowed inside the Potala palace every day, the order of sightseeing places will be decided upon by your guide. You will have your evening meal at your accommodation, level – Guesthouse.

Day 6

Namtso Lake

After breakfast you will be driven towards Namsto Lake along with the Tibetan guide. On the way you will pass by the Tibetan Nomads village and settlements. En route you will see Yak, Sheep other animals grazing on the grassland. After few hours drive your lunch will be on the way either on restaurant or our Tibetan cook will cook and serve you hot food. Later you will be check-in to guesthouse and explore the place.

Day 7


Today your next destination is the Bangka town. Your journey starts after breakfast and packing your belongings. You will be driven along Tibet grassland where you can see wild animals (antelope, wild donkey, etc.). Lunch on serve either in guest house or cooked by our staff. If the number of clients are around 8-10 the lunch will be cooked by our staff and which will be more interesting & fun. After lunch it will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach Bangka town. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 8


After breakfast your journey at the Tibetan Plateau continues along with our staff. While driving towards Nyima towns you will come across a small lake named Sling Lake. You will explore around the lake for an hour if possible your lunch ready nearby lake side. After 2 hours’ drive from the Sling Lake; you will reach Nyima town. Tonight your accommodation will be either in a guesthouse or in a camp.

Day 9


After morning you after breakfast, pack your belongings and move towards Damrayongtso. During your adventure excursion you will see various Tibetan wild animals. Your lunch will be served on the way at suitable place. You will be accommodating in camp and our cook will serve hot dinner.

Day 10

Chang Tang Wildlife Sanctuary

Today is your last day of long distance travel for a few days as we enter the amazing Chang Tang Wildlife Sanctuary. The area is one of the largest areas of protected land in central Asia. This area has huge number of wildlife and is one of the best places to see some of Tibets rare mammals. The rolling plains is excellent habitat for Chiru, Tibetan gazelles, kiang and their predators wolves, foxes, brown bears and possibly the very elusive snow leopard. You will arrive here and your camp will be set up and your evening meal prepared.

Day 11

Chang Tang Sanctuary

Today will be your first full day exploring the sanctuary and we will try to find the many animals which move into the sanctuary during the summer months to take advantage of the rich grazing. Following the grazing chiru, Tibetan gazelles, kiang, white-lipped deer, bharal sheep and Himalayan ibex are their many predators such as the Tibetan wolf, snow leopards, brown bears and lynx. During the evening your zoologist escort will set up camera traps to see if we can get some rare glimpses of the very elusive snow leopards. You will camp again and have your meals in the camp, prepared by the camp cook.

Day 12

Chang Tang Sanctuary

Today is the second full day of wildlife watching in the Chang Tang Wildlife Sanctuary and we will again try to see and observe the wildlife of this amazing region. As well as the mammals here we will keep an eye out for the many crane and vulture species which pass over head. By spending time in this area you will gain a true understanding of special true wilderness areas are to the success of conservation; but also you will appreciate the difficult task that enforcers of conservation have in trying to police illegal poaching. It is very likely that you not see another person during all the time in Changtang and Qiang Tang and it is this that makes the area both amazing and vulnerable at the same time. The camp and food situation will be the same as the previous few days.

Day 13

Qiang Tang

After breakfast you will be driven towards Qing Tang nature reserve which is around 4 hours’ from Chang Tang. You will see various wild animals and pass by Tibetan settlements and come across Nomads people. After lunch your journey continues till you reach Qing tang national park. Overnight at camp and dinner will be serve by our staffs.

Day 14

Qiang Tang

You will have a full day wildlife watching in the Qiang Tang Sanctuary today with your meals being served at your camp.

Day 15


After breakfast you will pack your belongings and move away from these wildernesses towards town. During your drive you will pass by Tibetan villages and see local people walking by. Your lunch will be serve at local restaurant. Few hours drive you will reach to Tsuchen town check-in to guesthouse be fresh relax free time. Evening dinner & accommodation at local guesthouse.

Day 16


Your journey will continue towards friendship highway and Nepal. Shigatse is the second largest Tibetan city. After Tibetan wildlife you have sightseeing of monasteries & local market. The Tashilhunpo Monastery, being one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet is the major attraction of Shigatse. You will accommodate in hotel and enjoy food of your choice..

Day 17


Today you will traverse along the Friendship Highway amidst picturesque landscape driving past small town of Lhatse and Gyamtso La pass at 5220m. As the route opens into plains, many monasteries and camps of nomadic herders become visible en route to Shegar.

Day 18


You will drive past Tingri crossing Lalung La pass at 5,124m and Shung La pass at 5200m. Savoring the enchanting views of the surrounding peaks of Shishapangma, Cho Oyu, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar you descend from the arid Tibetan Plateau to verdant Zhangmu on the Nepalese border. After driving for 181 km, you find yourself amidst the lush and verdant vegetation of Zhangmu at 2300 m.

Day 19


Few kilometers drive away from Zhangmu to Friendship Bridge across Bhote Koshi River brings you closer to Immigration Control in Kodari where you will part with your Tibetan guide and driver, and walk across the river to meet your Nepalese escort who will drive you to Kathmandu. After 5 hours of driving for 123km, you finally arrive in Kathmandu.

Day 20


After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport in time to catch your return flight home.

However adverse weather conditions and other local considerations can necessitate some modifications of the itinerary during the course of the tour; any changes will be made to make the best of the time and weather conditions available to us.

Extra Information

Weather Conditions

The weather in Tibet in June & July is not too bad, there can be some rain but the sunshine most days. The temperature stays around 15-25 degrees C. But the nights can be pretty cold.

What’s Included

Everything mentioned in the itinerary is included. Including three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). There will be an amount of bottled water (approx 1ltr) available for each guest each day. We have our own private air conditioned vehicle with an excellent local driver. We have brilliant local guides and zoologist escorts (where available).

Personal Equipment

We recommend you bring along your own binoculars or scope as well as appropriate clothing; which should be light and airy clothes as well as comfortable walking shoes. As the nights can be chilly we recommend you bring a fleece, long trousers, scarf and a woolly hat and as it can be rainy waterproofs are handy. Insect repellent is also handy as there can be mosquitoes about during the evenings and nights. Any medication, books or other items of a personal nature is of course up to you to bring along. Oh and please bring plenty of memory cards or film for your camera. Also do not forget sun cream, sun hat and sun glasses as the sun can be strong here during the day.

Included Equipment

We provide a comprehensive species list of all the vertebrates present in the areas we are visiting as well as some of the best field guides and reference books for the areas we are visiting. There is usually a spare pair of binoculars but in a group of 4-6 people these do not stretch too far. We also provide a spot light for nocturnal viewing (this is subject to local condition when we arrive). Camera Traps will also be used to try and capture hard to see wildlife in the dead of night.

Extra Expenses

Nearly everything is included in this tour. The only things not included are international flights, travel insurance (contact us for more information one what is required from your insurance policy), any food bought outside of the three main meals, drinks outside of any offered with the meals and the bottled water provided each day and any items of a personal nature such as souvenirs and tips. Any departure taxes applicable when leaving are not included (but may be included in the cost of your flights), Please check this before hand.

Visas and Health Information

All UK passport holders and most other nationalities are required to have a visa for Nepal & Tibet. Your Tibetan visa is included in the costs and you do not have to worry about this. We may ask for a photocopy of your passport but everything will be taken care of. Your Nepalese visa is easy to get and are usually issued on arrival at the airport for a fee. The fee for a multiple entry tourist visa valid for 30 days is £35. There are no mandatory vaccinations needed to visit Nepal or Tibet, but it is recommended to be protected against TB, polio, typhoid, tetanus and hepatitis A as well as taking a form of malaria prophylactics. Please consult your GP about your individual requirements for visiting Tibets soon as you have decided on this trip.

Due to the high altitude in Tibet a reasonable amount of fitness is needed but the altitude can affect anyone (regardless of fitness) so please read up or ask your GP about altitude sickness before leaving.
